ABOUT CARVIN
Soon after, Carvin joined his brothers as part of the legendary gospel group The Winans, whose groundbreaking sound helped redefine contemporary gospel music. Their debut album, Introducing The Winans, earned a Grammy nomination, followed by Long Time Coming, which also received Grammy recognition.

In 1985, Carvin earned his first Grammy Award for the album Tomorrow, writing the title track that would become one of gospel music’s most beloved songs. The following year, The Winans signed with legendary producer Quincy Jones at Qwest Records. During this era, they released six albums, four of which won Grammy Awards, including the acclaimed Live at Carnegie Hall and The Winans Return, which achieved Gold certification. Over the course of his career, Carvin has received 12 Grammy nominations and won 5 Grammy Awards.

Beyond his work as a performer, Carvin’s songwriting has reached far beyond gospel music. His compositions have been recorded by some of the most celebrated voices in the industry, including Whitney Houston (Love Is), Regina Belle (Make It Like It Was), Peabo Bryson (Life Goes On), CeCe Winans (All In Your Name), Vanessa Bell Armstrong (Here’s to You), and Marvin Winans (My Story). Regina Belle’s Make It Like It Was reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and remains one of the most celebrated R&B ballads in Billboard history.
A Legendary Voice of Gospel Music
Carvin has also collaborated with legendary artists across genres. He contributed background vocals to Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror, produced by Quincy Jones, and recorded with artists such as Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald.
His influence extends beyond the recording studio. Carvin served as host and Executive Producer of the television series All Access with Carvin Winans, which aired for two seasons and featured guests such as Debbie Allen, Gladys Knight, Kirk Franklin, and Brian McKnight.

Expanding his artistic presence beyond music, Carvin stepped onto the theatrical stage in 2003, starring in the nationally touring gospel stage production Lord, All Men Can’t Be Dogs written and directed by T. J. Hemphill, also starring Carl Payne, Terrell Phillips from the R&B group Blackstreet, AJ Johnson and John Gray.

He returned to the stage in 2005, joining an acclaimed cast that included Garrett Morris, Clifton Davis, Montell Jordan, and Egypt in the inspirational stage production The Sweet Spot, further showcasing his versatility as a performer.

In 2007, Carvin and his brothers were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, honoring their extraordinary contribution to gospel music.
Carvin has also played an important role in developing new talent. As Vice President of A&R at Word Records, he signed the successful group Winans Phase II, comprised of his sons Carvin Jr. and Juan, along with nephews Marvin Jr. and Michael Jr, and served as Executive Producer of their Grammy-nominated debut album.

In 2008, Carvin received the President’s Merit Award from the Recording Academy, recognizing his exceptional artistry and his role as a pioneering force in contemporary gospel music.

In 2013, Carvin joined his brothers Marvin and BeBe to form 3 Winans Brothers, debuting their single If God Be For Us during the historic 50th Anniversary March on Washington honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Their 2014 album was widely praised and earned the group an NAACP Award.

Continuing to create and inspire, Carvin released his debut solo single God Still Working On Me, which reached #1 on the Billboard Gospel and Gospel Mediabase charts. The song has been widely praised as a powerful reflection on faith, personal growth, and spiritual renewal.
On June 27, 2025, Carvin released his highly anticipated gospel album Cool Gospel released by Blackground Records 2.0 on all streaming platforms. The album has been celebrated as a masterclass in gospel-infused excellence, showcasing his signature vocals, heartfelt songwriting, and unwavering commitment to spreading a message of faith.
